It's not advised that you try to change the date between 22:00 and 2:00 or you may damage your watch. - Calibre Zenith El Primero (COSC): changes instantly at 0:03 - Calubre Rolex 3135: changes instantly at 0:04 My JLC date changes at around 12:30am. I've always thought it was to err on the side of being after midnight rather than changing before, i.e., accounting for margin of error. My GMT changes about 5 min after midnight. From what I was reading, +10 min is still within spec. Apparently it is about how the hands are placed during assembly. It can be sent in to change exactly at midnight if you wish, but this might lead to something else being off kilter and is therefore not recommended. It can be fixed. There’s nothing wrong with the mechanism- that’s a nice snappy date change, but it can absolutely be set to change exactly at midnight by a competent watchmaker. Don’t ask Rolex to do it, it’s within spec.
